About the Coach Chris is very enthusiastic about living an active life. With more than 11 years of physical therapy experience, he has seen the benefits of living an active life in his patients and the pitfalls that a sedentary life can bring. Delaware is certainly not known for its parks or recreational areas. Chris has felt that the adult community lacks these important areas and the resources to sustain an active and healthy lifestyle. That being said, Chris is very excited to be a part of Bricks MultiSport as he believes it brings a source of recreation to adults and children alike in the community for which he is a part. Chris has been involved in competitive and recreational sports or some form of physical activity since the age of 6, when he first began playing soccer. While in high school and college Chris participated in sports such as soccer, baseball, tennis, wrestling, and collegiate co-ed cheerleading. After college he took up a typical weight lifting regiment in a gym for several years and played recreational softball.
Becoming bored of being indoors and the gym when it was nice outside, he began to shift his workouts to utilize less time indoors and get him outside. He started to run again and eventually decided to train for his first triathlon. The decision to do triathlons, over running, came from his desire for a new challenge and change. By change he needed a multi-faceted sport, such as triathlon with is three sports. There was no way Chris could do the same exercise like running nearly everyday.
Additionally, triathlon would require his entire body to be fit, an ideal that Chris had always felt strongly about. So a few years ago Chris took to training himself for his first tri. At the end of the summer, the event arrived and Chris did finish. Nothing magical happened, no first place trophy or age group win, but he had set a goal and met it. Looking back now, Chris sees the many mistakes he made that cost him valuable minutes during that race. He also sees gaps in his training that could have made him faster and more prepared. In the years since that first race, Chris has worked hard to improve on all of his skills. In 2009, Chris participated in eight multi-sport events and age group placed in five. Looking forward to 2010, Chris will take on the 70.3 and the Ironman distances in June and November respectively, while attempting to defend his overall age group win in the Pirahna Sports Series in 2009. As a co-owner of Bricks MultiSport and Fitness, LLC, Chris hopes to continually help many athletes reach their goals of participating, completing, and competing in multi-sport events. With years of experience in athletics and multi-sport, his educational background in physical therapy, and as an assistant coach for top state ranking cross country and track teams, he has a diverse background from which to chose as a coach to help you succeed.
