| From Petrified to Podium in 5 Weeks
Or should we call it "from horrified to hardware"? To the world's best triathlon training triumvirate -- from the bottom of my heart, I have to thank you for the guidance, support, instructions, friendship and laughs since meeting you 5 weeks ago. You were all responsible for turning it around for me ... as back on the night of Thursday, May 21st, I went to my first open water swim and I thought there was a better chance of me standing in front of a moving train than there was getting in the water again. But starting the next morning, with a comforting conversation with Jess and then a warm greeting that Saturday from Chris and Jim, it all got better.
I won't bore you with the details of Saturday without buying you a beer but know that I ended up getting 2nd place out of the 25 women in the 50-54 year-old category at the Philadelphia Insurance sprint triathlon on Saturday. Jim -- you will be glad to know that my T1 was fastest of the 25 (as was my run). Swim wasn't pretty but I survived and was not tired cause when you don't swim quickly you are not out of breath. Found out after a few rides in pancake flat Delaware that I am faster on uphills than downhills and am a SPAZ on turns. Made a few other mistakes, but that happens on your first official tri with 1600 people,, right? The woman who came in 1st in my age group actually had an age of 49 on the back of her leg and was from NY, NY so I am not sure who that total poser was. But I guess I can't complain with how I did.
I hope to stay in touch and get to do an activity with the group every once in a while so please keep me on your distribution list...
Well, -- I am back to work tomorrow so there may not be quite as much time for fun, and with a marathon in about 4 months I need to keep training for that. But do know that your kindness had a profound impact on me and I hope to come by as a guest when my schedule allows, if you'll have me back.My best to all of you --Stacey Rohrbeck

| Ringing Endorsement for Team Bricks I just wanted to give a quick shout out to both of you thanking you for the opportunity to be part of the Bricks Team. The banquet last night was great - the food was yummy, the slideshow was a lot of fun and of course "winning' those fabulous prizes just made our night :-) Last January when Bob and I registered for our first multi-sport event (the BVD) we never anticipated that it would lead to us competing in over a dozen other races (each) over the next several months. When Bob first mentioned to me about joining a multisport team called "Bricks" last February, I really did not see the purpose in it - I didn't get why we would need to be part of a "team". But I went along with it - to humor Bob. (and what was a "brick" anyway?)When we were on our way home from the BVD, I looked at Bob and said something like - "can you imagine if we had done that alone" - meaning the support we got from you guys that day (and the trainings leading up to it) completely made it worthwhile. In fact, without you guys, I would have been completely lost - literally!! Looking back, I can honestly say that if we had not been a part of Bricks, I would have checked "duathlon" off my list that day and called it quits - or at least gone back to my 2 mile runs around the block. It wasn't until two years ago at age 37 that I participated in my first ever 5K - in a lightning fast 31 minutes!!! Although I'm still not breaking any records, I can proudly say, that two years later I have shaved over 5 minutes off my 5K time (most of those minutes disappeared this past summer thanks to those awesome track workouts) and I am now planning to run in my first ever half marathon this weekend and my only real worry is the weather. I really feel that sometime in this next year I will complete a full marathon.I love being a part of Bricks - the camaraderie of the team is awesome! Terms like "open water swim, speed laces, and negative splits" which were never part of my vocabulary before are now part of our every day language around the house. Bricks has also given my family an activity to do together (my girls often talk about Lake Como) and it has challenged Bob and I to push ourselves physically in ways we never thought we could. When I registered for the Sea Colony Tri, I honestly thought I was getting in over my head - 1 mile in the ocean - now that really scared me and the thought of running (gulp) six miles after pedaling for 25,- I really thought I was going to be crawling over the finish line. That was one of my best races and fondest memories of the year. And yes, Bob and I were in full Brick gear that day even without a tent - or even many other teammates around :-)On one other note - that day at the BVD - I pedaled at a breakneck 12.5 miles an hour (hey it was hilly) -but by Lums Pond in August - 19.5!!!
I think it is safe to say - watch out BVD 2010! :-) Now I'm ready !
Thanks again - You guys are great! Ginny Knox
